Air-blown Fiber

Air-blown fiber (ABF) is a method of installing fiber optic cables that relies on the flow of compressed air, easing the fiber all the way to its destination. A compact fiber bundle is blown through a tube, at speeds of 100 to 150 feet per minute to anywhere in the LAN you want it to go. The air source used is either compressed air or nitrogen.

The process is simple, fast and keeps fiber optic installation costs down. Instead of pulling standard cable, ABF is blown into a miniature duct system, using airflow, which takes it all the way to the customer premises without splicing along the way. Spare tubes are added during the initial installation. This makes it easy to add fiber or make changes to the network in the future.
