What is HetNet?

If you use mobile devices, you are probably interested in learning how to get quicker data rates on the go. Good news! We at CTS believe mobile networks are changing.

Networks are adapting to the growing demands of users with HetNet (heterogeneous network). The concept of a HetNet is a network with a lot of different aspects and technologies, from Wi-Fi to femtocells, all working together. This means Wi-fi technicians are helping you get quicker data rates and making services work better.

A HetNet connects computers and other devices with different operating systems and/or protocols. For example, local area networks (LANs) that connect Microsoft Windows and Linux based personal computers with Apple Macintosh computers are heterogeneous. The term HetNet is also used in wireless networks using different access technologies. For example, a wireless network which provides a service through a wireless LAN and is able to maintain the service when switching to a cellular network is called wireless HetNet.

A Wide Area Network can offer wireless coverage in an environment with a variety of wireless coverage zones, ranging from an open outdoor environment to office buildings, homes, and underground areas. A recent research study from ARCchart estimates that HetNets will help drive the mobile infrastructure market to account for nearly $57 billion in spending globally by 2017.

If you are looking for an experienced Wi-Fi technician or a structured cabling contractor, the team at CTS is highly trained to ensure that your building is wired to accommodate HetNet.
